SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I got a Flickr message asking for permission to use a photo for a book cover. Never being approached before (nor shopped any photos around) I set out on forums detailing the offer and asking what experienced photographers thought about the deal. By all accounts it seemed legit and the conditions were pretty decent, especially that I retained full rights to the photo.
So, I happily said Yes! I signed the contract, sent them my invoice for payment and waited. Once the payment was made, I felt much better, finally comfortable that the deal was legitimate.
The book has finally been published and can be seen on the shelves at a number of Readings book stores. I have yet to go into one, but it will be a trip to finally see it in physical form. Now I am just waiting for the promised 10 copies from the publisher.

This is awesome, Carlo. The same thing happened to Carey, my wife. Check out hers (it's the background photo, not the person): http://www.lindacrew.com/children_of_the_river_55440.htm
Sweet! Did she just get approached out of the blue on Flickr, too?
I popped into a bookstore that had a couple copies and held it in my hands for the first time. The credit is on the back, was a rush to see my name there! So egoistic…but whatever!
Just waiting for my copies in the mail now…
Congrats Carlo!
Incredible photo Carlo! Very haunting. Congratulations, your work is beautiful
Thanks Karen!
